NWS HeatRisk Forecasting Major and Extreme

NWS HeatRisk, an experimental standalone heat product that does not directly correlate to other heat products and which accounts for more factors, is forecasting the extreme heat category for Indiana starting Sunday, and peaking Monday. The combination of expected hot maximum temperatures, elevated humidity, poor relief at nighttime (not cool/dry enough), length of time these conditions will be present in the same area, and how early in the summer season this is occurring makes this an unusual circumstance that can become overwhelming if heat safety is not applied by individuals…especially for those with health conditions that make them more vulnerable.
